“6S” is a management tool of strengthening the basic management in an enterprise. An employee consciously and strictly following each standard is the symbol of modern civilization.
The “6S” as follows:
Sort (or organization, SEIRI) – Distinguishing between what is needed and not needed at any time and to remove the latter in time.
Stabilize (or orderliness, SEITO) – Enforcing a place for everything and everything in its place, to keep quantity and quality clearly and orderly, and pick and place conveniently.
Shine (or cleanliness, SEISO) – Cleaning up the workplace and looking for ways to keep it clean, leaving a clean, and comfortable environment.
Standardize (or adherence, SEIKETSU) – Maintaining and monitoring adherence to the first three Ss, to put an end to occupational hazards and prevent environment pollution.
Sustain (or self-discipline, SHITSUKE) – Following the first four Ss, to form the habit of self-management and self-control.
Safety (or zero incidents, SAFETY) – Implementing the principles of “Safety first, precaution crucial”.
